Despite a recent earthquake and the ongoing civil unrest in Myanmar, a Burmese Bible translation team demonstrated unwavering commitment to their mission by inviting unfoldingWord’s Birch and Dr. Connie Champeon to lead them in their first Church-Centric Bible Translation workshop.

unfoldingWord’s translationCore—an open-source platform for checking and managing Bible translation projects—proved a powerful asset, significantly enhancing the team’s ability to engage with the translation process. When we demonstrated how they could align their translations with Burmese, we got gasps! Everyone was talking, discussing, and looking over the team leader’s shoulder. Their engagement was a joy to witness.

 

A Surprising Coincidence
In an amazing turn of events, the Tavoyan language—randomly featured in a 2020 explainer video by unfoldingWord—turned out to be one of the very languages the trainees chose to translate during the workshop. This remarkable coincidence is a powerful reminder of God’s providence in all we do and his love for the 462,000 unreached Buddhists who speak Tavoyan.
